I started this piece with a handstyle PH33L tag, then I used an old wooden flower pot or something that was meant to be mounted to the wall, that I snagged at a thrift shop, to add another layer of design to the background. **The background was all done with spray paints.
Then I began skimming my brain of cartoon-like ideas in commemorance of the great animators and character developers/designers. I thought of Walt Disney, Tim Burton, Tex Avery...so many classics. I decided to go with Marvin the Martian. He was such an odd, cool and powerful character. Plus, his helmet reminded me of my Middle School logo for Titans & I wanted to give him a space out look in the eyes lol!!
I painted his face and helmet with oil based paints. The plumes on top if the helmet were in water based paints to add a different texture and to make it look fair next to the rugged helmet. Then I did a black outline with a paint pen to give it the cartoon character effect. I call it Space Modulator.
